The Knight Shield - May 2025

Jesus has Risen, Hallelujah!

And, Fish Fry’s concluded with a resounding success selling out (5) of (6) weeks. Ray Coughlin, the Fish Fry Czar, Kurt Buhlinger and his kitchen team are to be commended for such a great program. There were numerous volunteers to assist throughout the 6 weeks this year including our very own “Ladies of the Knights” and we can’t thank you all enough. This event goes beyond raising funds for local charities to include fellowship with our Parish members and evangelization in the community.

The Knights Easter Egg hunt here at St Paul’s was a lot of fun with a special appearance by the Easter Bunny (Celeste, thank you !). It took several hours for our volunteers to pack up over 3,000 eggs and just a fraction of that time for the kids to collect them. All had a blast and hopefully you had an opportunity to visit "Spotknights.com" to see the pictures our Webmaster Ken Dudley posted. Thanks to the Coughlin’s, the Miller’s, Jerry Hund and all the volunteers that assisted !

MI Drive (or Tootsie Roll Drive) went off on Palm Sunday weekend and fortunately the weather was decent (especially if you were in the sun). We could have used a few more volunteers as some spots were left open. But Jeff Gapczynski, Ken Krause and team did a great job keeping people motivated and getting them out on the streets / store fronts. Sheri Ignatowski was fantastic in support of keeping workers fed to stay warm out there. Thanks to our coin/ money counters as well. The results are not fully in at the time of this Newsletter, but we will continue the Council’s commitment to support seven separate charities that aid mentally impaired and physically challenged people in our community.

The Easter Meat sales team led by Jerry Hund and Ted Czarny did another amazing job of filling orders and raising funds for charities. Over 100 hundred orders and even though there was a little mix up on deliveries all got distributed on a very busy Holy Thursday. Thanks guys !

2025’s Fraternal Benefits Night starts off the calendar for this month on May 1st. New members especially should join for this educational night of information on how to protect yourself and your families with insurance and retirement planning. Don Wesley and Attorney Charles Shaw will provide a light meal and program starting at 6:30 pm. Check the bulletin for additional details and ask a friend to join you. All are welcome to this event.

An Exemplification of the 1st thru 3rd degrees is planned prior to the May general meeting on May 8th at 6:00 p.m. There will be (4) or more new members at the exemplification. Please come early, participate in the program and welcome these new members to our Council. George Loewen will lead the exemplification team, and I learn from him every time he does this. You should too.

The Council will lead the Silver Rose Program at St Paul’s starting May 11th thru May 18th . The Silver Rose is a spiritual pilgrimage of the message of our Lady of Guadalupe. Please see the schedule attached below and contact our community director George Loewen on spots available to support this program.

Look for announcements on the Canal Road Clean up early in May and the Rosary Rally taking place on May 10th at Noon at SPOT. Unfortunately, the Macomb Special Olympics is postponed to next year due to construction at the college.

2025 / 2026 Officer elections will be held at the May 8th General meeting. I highly encourage you to run for office. Officers meet on the 4th Monday of every month to review programs, new and existing. Officers decide what charitable contributions to bring to the Council to vote on. This is where most of the program decisions are first reviewed. Please consider making the additional dedication to becoming an officer and further lead this Council !

The Michigan K of C State Convention is upcoming in a couple of weeks on May 21st thru 23rd. Our Council delegates are all set and looking forward to another productive and meaningful convention.

God bless our Council and God Bless the Knights of Columbus

Vivat Jesus !
